A nerve so raw - sex toys for her
After becoming a force in the form of a documentary, filmmaker Madhureeta Anand is dealing with her inner problems in the form of feature films.
Just the unforgettable premiere of Khwabon Mein Jo Aaye did not prevent us from becoming the award-winning director, who produced a documentary about caste system and honor murder, set in the context of Haryana's story, some difficult questions are told, such as female and baby infanticide.
The film, Kajarya, is driven by the new faces of the film school.
Its promotional film is shown at this year's Cannes Film Festival and is expected to be released early next year.
Excerpts from the interview: What is the catalyst for Kajarya?
This is my own internal discontent with the way women are treated in the world, especially in India, plus I have a daughter.
As a nation, we can remain silent and at the same time mass slaughter of women through all kinds of violence, which seems to be a crime.
The film is just trying to re-
Create a world where women live.
So that people can experience it and feel the stress and anxiety of our lives.
The film is a thriller, but the background is a world in which a girl may die.
How to look at the portrayal of female characters in mainstream movies?
Women are either used as sex toys or pushed overs in mainstream Indian films.
A series of recent films have tried to portray strong women as drunk and sexual --
Madness is not good for women's image.
As a woman, it's hard to watch these movies and don't feel insulted.
Now it's time to have more and more movies, and we show strong ordinary women, showing men's respect for women.
Whether we like it or not, our movies are a force that can help change things.
In your first movie, you work with the famous people, but this time you have real people.
Are you exploring a new field? Every story needs to be handled by itself.
In order for it to be credible, Kajarya must have new faces.
Our country is full of new talents. they must be cultivated.
This will enrich the film industry.
How do you see the box office failure of just Khwabon. . .
Is this a concern for you? . .
I was very worried.
Personally, I think it's a curse of remorse.
This is the first time I 've failed on anything, and it's publicly available on a large scale.
In retrospect, I can see what it is.
I started to do something very naive and brave.
I made a movie in a city I don't know.
When things bottomed out, I had almost no one to ask for help, other than that, I had no previous experience dealing with the Indian film industry.
I am trying to use my experience in the international industry as a reference!
Brave but naive.
There is also a lot of luck.
Maybe not on my side.
But God knows this is the best thing that happened to me.
I learned a lot.
The most important thing is that I know what I want and it's important to me.
Why turn from documentary to feature film. . .
I like to make documentaries, but I still do.
I always work on a documentary at any time.
However, the novel is characterized by a different way of satisfying its own creative palette.
Some stories you can only tell in the form of a novel.
So I'm kind of like two.
Type, like to make documents and features.
Like you, Kabir Khan is also not interested in the documentary scene in India.
When documentary formats have surged around the world, what do you think is the reason for the lack of influence and interest in documentaries.
It's interesting that you mentioned Kabir's name because he is a good friend and a very good person.
The reason why the documentary is not released in India can be attributed to two reasons: first, we have a huge science fiction film industry as a whole.
This leaves little room for other things.
In addition, our documentary production tradition is very dry and helpful.
But I can tell you that it is changing.
This is the first time we have shown more and more documentaries in theaters, which is a good sign.
When are you going to release Kajarya?
We will be releasing on March 7, the day before Women's Day.
We will only be shown at international film festivals before India's release.
We want to save the big India unveiling ceremony for the audience, not just the festival audience. What's next?
I'm going to make three movies.
One of them is the film Maharani for a period of time.
Another is the romantic story of Mumbai, and the third is Kotha No.
This is about prostitution.
I'm making a documentary. . . .
So many things have happened.
