VANCOUVER —
Megan Kennedy's career path is like her custom --
Works made: full of surprises. The 30-year-old Vancouver-
The artists at the headquarters spend 14 hours a day making paper mache works.
She claims she can do anything and the only thing that limits her is the imagination of her clients.
"It's too casual," she said . "
"I made crazy creatures.
This is my job. I laugh funny.
Until last year, Kennedy was still high-
Retail stores.
Although she has always had a sly side, she has not done much to develop her creativity and she wants to change that.
At some point in the early spring of 2009, Kennedy took part in the variety show Talent Time, a monthly event in Vancouver that included mini Mexican bands and Frank Sinatra imitators
Inspired by the originality of the show, she asked its host and creator, Paul Anthony, if he needed any help.
He asked her to make a piñata-shaped pooch for his next show, and he would be filling the cover of the show with peony and destroying it for the audience.
Although Kennedy had never been a pinata before, she accepted the challenge warmly.
The result was hit.
"I don't know how she doesn't know how to make pinatas," Anthony said . ".
"She apparently went to the library and took some books about how to make pinatas and she killed it.
Next month, he asked Kennedy to shape another North Korean leader, KIM JONG-UN --il.
Soon, Kennedy received a request for a birthday.
Her first paid order was for an acquaintance who was recently separated from her boyfriend.
The order was made to replicate a heartbreaking woman who looked "super hot" and then filled with sex toys and candy.
She got $50.
"I thought 'Oh my God, it's so exciting, 50 bucks! ’ ” she said.
"But that's not the case because it took so long to make hair and paint and it cost $30.
"Orders kept coming and Kennedy found himself happy to keep up with orders.
She decided that after nearly 15 years in the retail industry, it was time to make a change.
So she took the opportunity to resign.
Her shift to this niche craft market is not challenging.
One of the highlights of her relatively short career is that she was asked to do a pinata for the packaging party of the TV show Vampire Diaries.
She has known the producer of the show since her retail age, and he has asked her to make copies of another producer of the show.
At first, he ordered the pinata to support Kennedy's new career, but soon realized it was a serious one.
"He asked, 'What can you really do?
"I'm like 'yes'," she said '. ".
"He's like, 'Can you wear a Brazilian football uniform with a big foot and a big cloak, be the producer of the show? '?
After the creation was completed, she was flown to the studio in Atlanta where she was invited to the packaging party.
Custom products are made of paper, flour and water.
Even though Kennedy left this part to the client, each pinata had an opening and could then be filled with surprises.
Kennedy sold an average of three pinatas a week, selling for more than $200 depending on the number of details.
"They are a bit like a premium custom dress, 100 of which is custom made.
Kennedy had a great dream of his future.
She wants to make a range of products in the art supplies store and hopes to one day make the piano for John Waters, Alan de Jerez and Oprah Winfrey.
As her career grew busier, Kennedy marveled at how much change had taken place in her life over the past year.
"I don't think I 've ever been so happy, I'm so excited about something," she said . ".
"If you continue to do a ridiculous move, then there will be no mistakes, will you?
