London, October 29Reuters)-
British Prime Minister Theresa May has ordered an investigation into a report, and one of her ministers asked a female secretary to buy sex toys for him, trying to address a political culture of sexual harassment.
According to The Sunday Post, junior minister of International Trade Mark Garnier asked Minister Caroline Edmunson to buy two sex toys, which he also called her "sugar tits ".
Garnier told the paper that the comment was part of an interesting conversation about a TV show and asking her to buy a toy was "a pleasant climax ".
In his comments to the newspaper, Ed Munson questioned Garnier's memories of the events, including his claim that they were "serious bad luck ".
Garnier did not immediately comment to Reuters through his constituency or parliamentary office.
On Friday, a spokeswoman for May said that any unwanted sex is "totally unacceptable" and that any minister who misconducts will face "serious action ".
She responded to reports from another British newspaper that described the sexual harassment culture of lawmakers and their staff working in Parliament.
Health Minister Jeremy Hunt said on Sunday that May had asked officials to investigate whether Garnier had violated the code of conduct of the government minister.
"These stories, if they are true, are obviously completely unacceptable," Hunt told BBC television . ".
"The Cabinet Office will investigate whether this particular case is in violation of the minister's code, but as you know, the facts are in dispute.
Hunter said: "May will also write to the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bull, for his advice on changing the culture there.
Reports of inappropriate behaviour in British politics and other industries came after dozens of allegations against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.
Weinstein denied it.
