BOGOTA (Reuters)-
Colombia's National Police Chief Rodolfo Palomino resigned on Wednesday, the day after the investigator general announced an investigation into whether he was involved in forming a male prostitution gang known as the services of lawmakers.
Palomino has also been investigated on suspicion of illegal enrichment and illegal hacking of journalists.
Police had previously accused him of providing proof to sex, but he denied it.
Palomino said in a statement read aloud in Bogota that he would submit his resignation to President Juan Manuel Santos, "because I absolutely know that the charges against me are
Santos appointed General Jorge Nieto as the new head of the police force.
General Alejandro Ordonez, an investigator in charge of investigating misconduct by public officials, announced the investigation on Tuesday.
The ring is said to operate between 2004 and 2008.
Palomino described the allegations as "reckless" and intended to discredit the police force.
