According to the South African Medical Journal, the old South African experienced a rare "penis strangling" after squeezing the wedding ring around his sexual organs for "pornographic reasons ".
The unnamed man apparently tried to use the wedding ring as an alternative to the cock ring, a sex toy that drops blood in the penis to boost sexual response.
The ring swelled the man's penis so much that he could not take it out.
According to the doctor, when the patient's mother took him to a hospital in Limpopo four hours later, his penis was erect and blue.
At first, the doctor tried to cut off the ring with a small surgical saw, but failed because the swelling made it difficult to get close to the ring without causing further damage, according to the newspaper.
The doctor ended up having multiple puncture sessions with a syringe and a pink needle to reduce swelling.
The patient was treated with antibiotics and painkillers and he strongly advised against doing so again.
"There are no proper guidelines for the treatment of this situation, so the 'Best method' is the way to succeed," the Journal notes.
