CAIRO (Reuters)-
Six Egyptian men arrested for "promoting sexual metamorphosis" and "lewdness" on social media will undergo anal examination before October.
Amnesty International said Saturday the trial will take place.
Their arrest was part of a broader crackdown on homosexuality, and since last week, a group of people raised the rainbow flag at a concert, a rare show of public support for homosexuality, rights of bisexual and transgender people in conservative Muslim countries.
Amnesty International says at least 11 people have been arrested and one man has been sentenced to six years in prison, earlier local media launched a highly critical campaign against those who raised the rainbow flag at the mashruila concert, Lebanon's popular alternative rock band, whose lead singer is openly gay.
Amnesty International said the six men would be examined by the forensic authorities for anal examination to determine if they had sex with the same sex.
Judicial sources said that any defendant accused of being "slutty" or "sexually abnormal" by euphemism for homosexuality in Egypt would be subject to a medical examination under the order of the prosecutor.
"The allegations about torture or insulting those who have been examined for medical examination are lies that are not worth responding.
"The examinations were conducted by a forensic doctor who vowed to respect his profession and ethics," said a judicial source . ".
Amnesty International said such inspections violated the prohibition of torture and other ill-treatment
Treatment under international law.
"The fact that Egyptian prosecutors have prioritized the pursuit of these people on the basis of their sexual orientation is very regrettable.
These people should be released immediately and without conditions, rather than on trial, "said Naja bennham, director of Amnesty International North Africa movement.
"Forced anal examination is hateful and amounts to torture.
The record of the use of invasive physical tests by Egyptian authorities is alarming, which amounts to torture of detainees.
All plans to conduct such tests on these people must be stopped immediately.
Egyptian Muslim religious institutions have expressed support for the government's actions against gays and lesbians.
"Al Azhar will oppose the call for sexual metamorphosis, as it does against extremist organizations," 1,000-year-
The old seat for Sunni Muslims to study said in his Friday prayer sermon.
Although homosexuality is not explicitly banned in Egypt, it is a conservative society where discrimination is prevalent.
Gay men are often arrested and often charged with slutty, immoral or profanity.
The biggest blow to homosexuality took place in 2001 when police raided a floating disco called the Queen's ship. Fifty-
Two men were tried in the case.
