In a study, about 85% of men reported that their partner had reached a climax in recent sexual activity.
When asked if women reached their climax last time, the number dropped to 64%.
The difference may be due to poor communication between the sexes, said Pepper Schwartz, a sociology professor at the University of Washington in Seattle, who was not involved in the survey.
She said in a telephone interview that such research can help people talk about sex with each other.
The study, conducted by scientists at the Center for Sexual Health Promotion at Indiana University, surveyed 5,865 people aged 14 to 94 for sex, describing what sex they engage in and what preventive measures they take.
Researchers at the University of Chicago published a similar study in 1994.
In the 16 years between the two reports, the researchers wrote, Americans have become more experimental.

About 22% of men said they used condoms in the last 10 sex lives; 18.

Researchers believe this is because men have more partners than women.
The people who are least likely to use condoms are those over the age of 50, and the ones who are most likely to use condoms are 82-year-olds.
