ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) —
A trade group resumed the award for female robot sex toy manufacturers who were taken away four months ago for not meeting their image.
The Consumer Technology Association on Wednesday restored 2019 innovation awards from the Consumer Electronics Show in the robotics and drones category to Lora DiCarlo's OS é "robotic massager ".
The association said it recognized "innovative technology" and "reiterated a sincere apology" to the developers ".
Jean Foster, a spokesman for the association, said in a statement, "CTA did not properly handle the award.
"An independent panel of judges chose osé last fall, but the organizer of the Consumer Electronics Show later said it was not qualified.
Lora DiCarlo, who calls it gender discrimination, noted that "a male sex toy was introduced literally at CES in 2018.
