Forty years ago, a publisher in London was working on a breakthrough sex book.
A "food guide" for sexual pleasure with rich and detailed illustrations.
But how to be tasteful and legal?
Think about sexual fun, and your brain will most likely turn to the image of a man with a thick beard and a woman with hair under her arm.
This is not a photo, but something that is closest to it with pen and ink.
In the UK in early 1970, the photos were too dangerous. But hand-
Illustrations based on photos?
Perhaps society is ready for this.
"We were a little nervous when we took over," recalled Chris Forth, an illustrator of the book.
"The publisher has to write a contract confirming that they will pay our defense if an old fart decides to issue it from it.
"In the summer of 1971, the UK was plagued by the Oz trial, and an editor of a satirical magazine was convicted of obscenity for publishing a parody of the child comedy character Rupert Bear. (
The judge was called "boring old fart" in court by a defense witness comedian Marty Feldman ". )
Since Penguin Books faced obscenity charges for publishing DH Lawrence's Lady Chatterley's Lover, it's only 11 years --
Full text, four in total-
Letter words and sexual descriptions between the Lady and the gamekeeper.
But due to the literary value of the work, Penguin was acquitted, so the pleasure of Peter Kingsley, director of sexual art, calculated that the quality of the work of art would protect the publisher, Mitchell bezley, for prosecution.
The image is graphic.
They show their genitals and countless sexual postures.
But they are also very artistic and tasteful.
He also added some historical images from India and Japan.
"There are concerns about the clarity of these images, so we think we will use these ancient images as a foil," Mr Kindersley said . ".
"To some extent, we associate ourselves with the past . . . . . . We want the book to feel like it's related to the great tradition of explicit pictures.
"But before the artist starts working, the team has to find models to pose for them.
Mr. Kindersley explained that the plan was to use the model of Soho, London.
Hotbed of capital sex industry.
"We found all the people who started to pose, but on the way through the pose they would ask for an extra £ 100 ($160)-
"It's totally chaotic," he said . "
It is difficult to find a feasible plan B.
When the project is close to death
Finally, Charles Raymond, another illustrator of the book
Responsible for the color map-
Who came to the rescue?
He and his German wife, Edeltraud, volunteered to model themselves.

The White illustration took a picture.
The book's author, Dr. Alex Conford, gave them dozens of positions to keep them busy for two days in early 1972.
Mine miners are on strike and they only have limited light to work before a power outage puts them in the dark.
"We're going to say, 'Charlie, we have 20 minutes left. '"
"He would say, 'Oh, I'm so sorry, 'and he would go and get ready to perform again, and Edeltraud would say,' Charles, Charles, please, please, we only have 10 minutes, please two more.
So when shooting these locations, everything was hard. but it worked.
"The same thing --of-

"I remember Chris and Charles walking into the office with these absolutely clear pictures," said Mr. Kindersley . ".
We all stood there and said, 'This is a good one, yes, very good.
"Maybe we're in a bubble and we're all crazy! " he laughs.
"We all understood it literally.
We said, "Yes, this is a good picture of Banda . "
"There's never been a conversation like this: 'Oh, we can't put it in the book.
The photos pleased author Alex Comfort, in part because Charles and Edeltraud looked so natural and unposed in their private relationship.
"The best thing about Charles and his wife is that they are completely real --
"You can't be more real," said Mr Kindersley . ".
This is a real event.
It's not a cooked one. up thing -
Alex really likes it.
Dr. Conford, who has spent a considerable amount of time in California, believes that California's sexual concept will become the norm around the world, including "four people" and "Moore ".
He's a regular at Shayan ranch.
A retreat to sexual adventure, where clothes are removed more often than clothes, and having sex with multiple partners is the norm.
His message in the book
This marks a big difference from earlier works on the subject --
Is sex and sex experiment interesting?
Different locations copied by Charles and Edeltraud were compared to the course of a meal.
However, he was also anxious about possible effects, such as being removed from the medical register.
So he showed himself in the original as an editor, claiming that an anonymous couple gave him the text, and he just adjusted and contextualized the text.
But there is no impact.
The timing of the book is perfect, and the combination of information about sexual freedom and bold but not offensive pictures is instantly hit.
When Mr. Kindersley visited book fairs around the world, the response was "electronic" and was accepted by many big publishers.
Of course, there are also some rejections.
What he remembers most is the American male magazine Playboy.
These models are just a little too hairy for their liking.
The fun of sex ended up selling more than 10 million copies around the world.
In the United States alone, more than 5 million people live in the best position of the New York Times.
List of sellers for ten years
Of course, there have been sex manuals before, but there is no comprehensive way to illustrate them like this.
Contrary to popular beliefs, according to James mcconnaji, author of Love: finding Camasutra and the Rough Guide to Sex, the kamasea was originally

He said that the text was labeled only when it was translated into French and English at the end of the 19 th century.
Mr. mcconatch said that sexual happiness jumped into the untested water as a result, but so calmly completed the illustrations that few people dared to follow suit.
"The illustrations are great --
"They are legends in the history of the Sex book," he said . ".
Anne Horber, a British sex therapist and author of many best-selling books, also agrees.
Like many other sex books in the 1980 s, the first batch she wrote had no illustrations at all.
She said that things that could be published have been "generally relaxed" in the years since ".
From 1990, it became a common practice --
Still so today
Using photography in the Sex book, Hooper says, once the photo is used, the illustration suddenly looks out of date. MS.
However, in order to be clear about regional sub-pornography, the genitals have never been shown and the models have no real sex.
"Happy Sex" is still on sale, but it is now very different from the original. Its free-
With the advent of HIV/AIDS, love messages have become difficult, and Alex Conford has revised the text on its own.
Then, in 2008, the book was greatly updated and re-published
The work of relationship psychologist Susan Quilliam has increased her female perspective on sex.
In order for the illustration to be updated, the illustration has also changed.

Chris forth has not seen his original black and white illustrations for the book for nearly 30 years.
He opened a small strong gray suitcase and began to wear it.
He has written up to three books in the past week, so-back then -
I think it's just another job.
"It seems to be a pioneering work afterwards, but of course you didn't realize it at the time.
What is his credit for the success of the book?
He stopped and hovered over the photos of Charles and Edeltraud, reaching out

"It's tender, isn't it?
They obviously have feelings.
You can judge by the way her body lies.
He paused.
"I think the fact that they love each other has something to do with it.
