Natal police deny a 43-year-
The old Verulam man fled the hospital on Tuesday after being arrested for rape and stepdaughter.
On Monday, an angry mob attacked him after hearing he was suspected of committing a crime, and the man was taken to hospital.
He was arrested today.
"He was taken to the hospital where he was not protected by the police," said police spokesman Colonel Thembeka Mbhele . ".
She said the suspect was allegedly attacking the child when a neighbor came to the rescue.
They were subsequently driven away by suspects.

Vinod Singh said earlier Tuesday that the man was allegedly arrested again after fleeing from the hospital.
"RUSA spread information about the man's escape and received an anonymous phone call from a community member of Phoenix City, reporting the whereabouts of the suspect.
"The police then arrived at the scene and found a group of people attacking the man," Singh said . ".
Mbhele said the suspect has been detained at the Verulam police station and faces rape charges.
On Monday, News 24 reported that underwear, pornography and sex toys were allegedly scattered in the beaten man's home.
"He sealed all the windows in their house and kept her at home while he was working.
"He also didn't get her into school so she wouldn't tell anyone about the rape and abuse she was experiencing," Singh said at the time . ".
Singh added that the suspect allegedly asked his stepdaughter and other men to sleep to subsidize his income as a mechanic.
