When a poor family in Cambodia suffered a loan shark, the mother asked her youngest daughter to find a job.
But not just any job.
The girl Kieu was taken to the hospital for examination by a doctor who issued her a "virgin certificate ".
She was then sent to a hotel where a man raped her for two days.
Kieu is 12 years old.
"I don't know what the job is," said kieou . " He is now 14 years old and lives in a safe house.
She said she came home from that experience, "very sad.
But her ordeal is not over yet.
After her virginity was sold, her mother took Kieu to a brothel and she said, "they held me in prison like I did.
"She was shut there for three days and raped by three to six people every day.
When she returned home, her mother sent her to two other brothels, including the Thai border, 400 kilometers away.
When she learned that her mother was planning to sell her again, this time it was 6-
A month later, she realized that she needed to escape from her home.
"It breaks my heart to sell my daughter, but what can I say?
Kieu's mother, Neoung, said in an interview with CNN that she traveled to Phnom Penh to hear her story.
Karaoke bars are common places for child prostitution.
Mira sovino details behind the scenes of this illegal trade.
Like other local mothers interviewed by CNN, she accused poverty of being the reason she decided to sell her daughter, saying the financial crisis pushed her into the claws of traffickers, these traffickers make a living for Cambodian children.
"It was because of the debt that I had to sell her," she said . ".
"I don't know what to do now because we can't go back to the past.
"This aspect of Cambodia's shocking child sex deal is Don Brewster, 59year-
Old Americans in this community find it most unbearable.
"I can't imagine what it's like to have your mom sell you and have your mom wait in the car while giving you money to get you raped," he said . ".

Her mother gave the keys to rape her to the people.
"Brewster, former pastor, after a tragic investigation visit, moved from California to Cambodia in 2009 with his wife Bridget, where Kieu grew up ---
Pakistan is the center of child trafficking in Southeast Asian countries.
"Svay Pak is considered a place around the world for pedophile to pick up little girls," Brewster said . " Agape International Missions, an organization of Brewster (AIM)
A four-year-old girl, under her care, was rescued from human traffickers and received rehabilitation treatment in her safe house.
In recent decades, he said, the impoverished fishing village has often been seen as a valuable asset to the family, where the virginity of the daughter has become a notorious child sex hotspot.
"When we came here three years ago and started living here, 100% of children aged 8 to 12 were trafficked," Brewster said . ".
The local sex industry has attracted both children nearby. -
Like Kieu, their parents and children who have been trafficked from the rural or Vietnamese border are sold.
"We didn't believe it until we saw vanload's child picking up vanload.
Experts said: "The broken social institutions left behind by poor law enforcement, corruption, poverty and the country's turbulent modern history have helped Cambodia win an unwelcome reputation for child trafficking.

Svay Pak is a dusty shantytown on the outskirts of Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, at the heart of this exploitation deal.
As one of the most vulnerable communities in one of Asia's poorest countries, almost half of the population lives on less than $2 a day. -
Poverty in settlements is overwhelming.
Most of these residents are undocumented Vietnamese immigrants, many of whom live in crumbling cabins on the dark tonriza River and fish with fishing nets tied to their homes.
This is an unstable existence.

The covered houseboat is fragile.
Most families here barely survive on less than a dollar a day, and when things go wrong, like Kieu's father getting tuberculosis, leaving no safety net, it's disgusting and unable to maintain a livelihood fishing net.
The family is lagging behind in paying off their debts.
In desperation, Kieu's mother, Neoung, sold her virginity to a Cambodian man who "may be over 50 years old," said Kieu, who has three of his own children
The deal earned only $500 for the family, more than the $200 they originally borrowed, but much less than the thousands they now owe usury.
So in order to make more money, Neoung sent her daughter to a brothel.
"They told me that I had to wear shorts and light tops when the client was there," said kieou . ".
"But I didn't want to wear it, and then I was accused.
"Her client is a man in Thailand and Cambodia and she says they know she's young.
Former pastor Don Brewster from California is the founder and director of Agape's international mission, an organization dedicated to saving and restoring victims of child trafficking in Cambodia and destroying the use of their networks.
On 2009, he took his wife to Cambodia for a painful investigation visit.
"They felt very happy when they slept with me," she said . ".
"But I feel bad for me.
"The person who abused Svay Pak's children is in line with some personal data.
They include paedophile sex tourists, who are actively looking for opportunities to have sex with pre-adolescent children, and more opportunistic "situational" criminals who take advantage of the opportunities of brothels to have sex with teenagers
Sex tourists often come from rich countries such as the West, South Korea, Japan and China, but research shows that Cambodian men are still the main exploiters of child prostitutes in the country.
Mark Capaldi is a senior researcher at Ecpat International, an organization dedicated to combating sexual exploitation of children.
"In most cases, when we talk about sexual exploitation of children, it happens in the adult sex industry," Capaldi said . ".
"We often hear reports in the media about pedophile and exploitation of young children.
However, sexual exploitation of children occurs primarily among adolescents, which occur in commercial premises.
"Abusive people are often local, situational criminals," he said.
Studies have shown that some Asian criminals are "virginity seekers" and their health
The relevant beliefs surrounding what virgins call restorative or protective qualities influence their interest in children's sexuality.
Regardless of the image of the perpetrators, their abuse of victims, including girls and boys, is terrible.
In Cambodia, abducted children have been raped by multiple criminals and photographed as having sex and physically injured. -

Brewster said more than a dozen karaoke bars today operate brothels on their way to the nearby area, and none of them were there two years ago.

Sephak, a relative living in nearby Kieu, is another survivor. (

When she was taken to the hospital, Sephak was 13 years old and she issued a certificate proving her virginity and handed it to a Chinese man in a room at a hotel in Phnom Penh.
She came back three nights later.
Sephak said her mother was paid $800.
"When I had sex with him, I felt very empty inside.
"I was hurt and felt very weak," she said . ".
"It's very difficult.
I thought about why I did it and why my mom did it to me.
"When she came back, her mother began to pressure her daughter to work in a brothel.
Toha listened to her mother explain how she sold her to sex dealers.
Instead of living with her family, she chose to live in the residence of human trafficking survivors managed by Brewster ---
But she still gives her family some financial support from her new job.
Not far from Sephak's family home, connected to the shore by a disorganized boardwalk, which dipped under the water with every step of foot, is the boathouse that Toha grew up.
The second of the eight children, none of whom went to school, was sold to sex by her mother when she was 14.
The transaction follows the same procedure: medical certificate, hotel, rape.
She said that about two weeks after she returned to sway Parker, the man who bought her virginity began to call and asked to see her again.
Her mother urged her to go.
The pressure made her desperate.
"I went to the bathroom and cut my arm.
I cut my wrist because I wanted to kill myself . "
A friend removed the door of the bathroom to help.
CNN interviewed the mothers of Kieu, Sephak and Toha of Svay Pak to find out why they chose to expose their daughters to sexual exploitation.
Kieu's mother, Neoung, came to Svay Pak from the south of the country and was looking for a better life when Kieu was a baby.

"I know I did something wrong, so I regret it, but what can I do ? "" she says.
"We can't go back.
But she added that she would never do it again.
Sephak's mother, Ann, has a similar story.
When her father came to be a fish farmer, Ann moved to Swan Park.
She has serious health problems with her husband.
"We are very poor, so I have to work hard," she said . "
"It's not enough to live. we 've been sick all the time.
"Families are in trouble.
When a storm swept through the area, their house was badly damaged, their fish ran away and they couldn't afford to eat any more.
She said the family received a loan during the crisis and eventually the debt soared to about $6000. With money-
The lender came to her home to threaten her, and Ann decided to accept the offer of a woman who promised her a big fortune for her daughter's virginity.
"I saw someone else doing it, but I didn't figure it out," she said . ".
"If I knew what I knew now, I wouldn't do that to my daughter.

Shortly after her suicide, Toha was sent to a brothel in southern Cambodia.
She endured more than 20 days there before she managed to get through the phone and called a friend.
She told her friends to contact Brewster's team and they arranged a raid on the agency.
Although children can be found in many brothels around Cambodia-

The country's child protection infrastructure is weak due to corruption in government agencies.
Anti-Cambodian
The Trafficking in Persons Act does not even allow police to carry out secret surveillance of suspected human traffickers.

The Human Trafficking Task Force, established in 2007 to address this issue, said that this placed his unit at a disadvantage in the fight against traffickers.
"We are still limited in prosecuting these violations, because first, we lack expertise, and secondly, we lack technical equipment," he said . ".
"Sometimes we see violations, but we are unable to collect the evidence needed to prosecute the offender.

Toha's nightmare is over now.
She has a stable income and sells woven bracelets in American stores, while she learns for her future.
Her dream is to be a social worker and help other girls who have experienced the same hardships.
Brewster believes that corruption has almost hindered Toha's rescue.
On October 2012, after Toha called for help, AIM worked out a plan to save teenagers with another organization and involve the police.
"We are authorized to close this place," Brewster recalls . ".
"15 minutes later, Toha called and said, 'I don't know what happened, the police just came with the owner and took us to a new place.
I was locked inside and had no idea where I was.
"Fortunately, the rescue team was able to identify the new location of Toha, where she and other victims were released, and the brothel manager arrested âx93 although not before the owner fled to Vietnam.
However, Toha's testimony to the brothel manager resulted in their prosecution.
In Phnom Penh city court last month, husband and wife Henwei and Nguyeng Hong were convicted of prostitution and sentenced to three years in prison.
Both were ordered to pay $1,250 to the court, $5,000 to Toha and a smaller amount to the other three victims.
Brewster appeared in court to watch the verdict;
It was a small victory in the issue of child trafficking in Cambodia, but it was still a victory.
"Toha is a very brave girl," he said on the court steps shortly after the brothel manager was taken to his cell.
"When she is stuck in a brothel for help, she gets a call saying she will testify in front of the police.
She stood up and now people will pay the price and girls will be protected.
What it will do is bring more Tohas, more girls who are willing to talk, close the place and put the bad guys away.
"Like other victims, Toha now lives in AIM safehouse, goes to school, feeds itself by weaving bracelets, sells in Western shops, as a way to provide livelihoods to previously trafficked children.
Brewster said that, in the community's view, there is a job that helps restore some of the dignity of the girl, which is deprived of because of trafficking.
It also makes them independent from their families. -
With this, there is a chance to build a better reality for yourself than to impose on them.
Sephak now plans to become a teacher, and Kieu is a barber.
As far as she is concerned, Toha still keeps in touch with her mother and even provides financial support to the family through her income, but has become selfreliant.
She says she wants to be a social worker and help girls who have experienced the same hell as her. "(Toha)
"My life is good, she has a dream, and other than that, you know, being a consultant and being able to help other girls," Brewster said . ".
